A FEDERAL UNIVERSITY TO BE SITED IN EBONYI STATE

The Federal Government of Nigeria's proposal to site more six universities one for each of the six geopolitical zones in the country has been welcomed by the well meaning Nigerians. Both Government and the people of the South East Nigeria have lauded Mr. President's initiave and commitment towards the development of the human resources of this nation as they argued that the establishment of more universities will not only give room for the citizens to acquire university education but also create job oppurtunities for the unemployed youths. The proposed universities were to be sited in the states that do not have an already existing Federal university, little or no wonder the Institution aloted to the south eastern Nigeria was allowed to be established in  Ebonyi State without any other state contesting it with the Ebonyi state.
Meanwhile three sites have been made available by the Ebonyi state Government for the establishment of the institution, that is to say, Amagu Izzi in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ndufu Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area and special science school, Igbegu but among all the proposed sites the State Governor in his speach is more interested in the Ndufu Alike Ikwo site, because according to him the people of that area benefited less in his federal and state gorvenment projects.

The Minister of Education, Professor Riquayatu Rufai, on her visit to Ebonyi State has assured that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) would soon deliberate on the three proposed sites offered by Ebonyi State for the federal university.
Professor Rufai spoke when she led officials of the ministry to inspect the sites mapped out by the Ebonyi State government for the establishment of the proposed institution.
The minister, who was accompanied by Governor Martin Elechi and other officials inspected Amagu Izzi in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ndufu Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area and special science school, Igbegu.
Professor Rufai said the choice of Ebonyi State was appropriate as it is the only state in the Southeast without a federal university.
Governor Elechi said the state would provide a conducive atmosphere for the the institution.
